This home is unusual in the use of material changes and textures used horizontally. It has colonial overtones. These show up in louvered shutters, a bracketed Dutch colonial door hood, and stuccoed arches framed with brick voussoirs. The brick starts out smooth textured to the brick header belt course. The second story is clapboard siding; the familiar wide overhang hipped roof finishes it off.

Mr. Nichols was founder of the Oklahoma Portland Cement Co. He was active in the state and county governments.

Mr. Smythe was owner of Smythe Bros. Builder Supplies.

Mr. Reiff served as superintendent of the city schools while he lived in this house. His "Arithmetic Course of Study" was considered a success throughout the state and the midwest. It is recognized as the outstanding contribution to schools of that decade. In addition, Mr. Reiff was on the executive board of the Boy Scouts, Director of NEA for Oklahoma and president and vice president of the National Education Association.
